PCT Trail Journal: Day 36 Mile 440.2 Messenger Flats Campground
Day 36 on the PCT from Mile 440.2 to Messenger Flats Campground was all up. But we had ice cream!
I woke up around 5:45 am and started getting ready. I love sitting in my tent drinking coffee. It’s truly one of the best parts of the trail for me.
I hit the trail at 7:15 and saw so many people I know from before. It was awesome and motivating to see them. It’s also great to get info on where to camp and what to do in town.
There was a lot of up. 1600 feet over 4 miles to get to the North Fork Ranger Station. Some of the climb was painful. It was so steep but I made it!
The person at the ranger station was awesome. He gave ice cream, rice crispy treats, Gatorade and an ice pack for Majka. Yay for trail magic.
Majka wanted to get going and she took off up the mountain. Dan and I chatted with the hikers. I saw folks I used to hike with when I was NOBO 💛.
There was another 1800 ft over 5 miles to get to the water source. It was brutal. But I felt so good after I got to the top. I felt really accomplished.
There was service at the top. I played on my phone and waited for Dan and Majka. We had just a little over a mile where we would break for lunch. I was starving and fantasizing about having an onion bagel with tuna, cheese and olive oil.
When I did make that for lunch I spilled the olive oil everywhere 😢.
A guy warned us about bees at the water. They weren’t too bad. I wanted to chill more but Dan wanted to go. We soaked our shirts and I took off.
Messenger Flats Campground is a nice little camp area with picnic tables. There was a great area for two tents. Perfect!
It was so nice to chill on the picnic table at the campsite.

🌟How Was Today? Did I enjoy it?
Great day! The climb was hard but I felt really good after completing it. It didn’t feel too hot when done climbing. I like being up in these mountains.
⛺How Was My Gear?
My CNOC bag still leaks at the top. Super annoying.
💪How did my Body Feel?
Good body day. My heel hurt a little after leaving the water source.
🍴How was my food situation?
I tried making a bagel with cheese, tuna and olive oil. I spilled olive oil all over my leggings. Boo.
🤔What did I learn and how will I action it?
Big ups are hard but they feel good when you’re finished.
