The Best Part?

The wildflowers and trail magic!

What did I learn?

Trail magic is awesome but I already knew that. I need to take more breaks and do shorter days.

PCT Trail Journal: Day 10 3rd Gate Water Cache to Mile 104.8

Day 10 from 3rd Gate Water Cache to Mile 104.8 was pretty awesome. I got up at 6 and started doing my stuff:

-Bathroom
-Coffee
-Oatmeal (the good one I made at home)
-Pack up stuff
-Went hiking

It was fun chilling with Nick, Matt, and Sean in the morning. It wasn’t too rushy or anything.

I heard there was trail magic 10 miles down the trail and hauled ass. I didn’t even take a break and only stopped once to pee. The only thing on my mind was town food.

I hiked by myself for about 8 miles and listened to the Fifth Season. I don’t quite understand everything yet but I really like that book.

The wildflowers were crazy again today. There are so many out. They are covering the hillside. It’s so gorgeous.

The trail climbed and had big mountain views to the south toward Julian. It was a narrow trail on the side of a mountain again. The way I like it. It climbed up and got a little more tree-y. There was a tree with small white flowers blooming. It was covering the hillside. They were everywhere and leaving a weird taste in my mouth.

The weather today was great. It was a little hot but sometimes there was a breeze.

I meet up with Nick and Matt when we passed mile 100. I can’t believe it’s already been 100 miles. Go me!

My right pinky toe was feeling a little hot on the outside. It’s rubbing a little. Need to be super careful.

I don’t feel like I drank enough water. I was sort of conserving because of the 10 mile carry. I had a liter left so I didn’t drink too much.

The trail magic was amazing. 2 years ago a lady hiked the PCT and for her birthday she wanted to do trail magic. Isn’t that the sweetest? There was a huge spread with camp chairs and the food was delicious. Here’s what I ate:

– Bacon double cheeseburger
– Gatorade
– Beer
– Watermelon
– Green goddess salad
– Cookie
– Trail beer
– Trail snacks

We sat at the trail magic for 2 hours. It was fun. There were so many people there hanging out and eating.

Around 1:30 the crew left to hike 4 more miles to a fantastic campsite. There were tons of flat sites, huge oak trees with shade, a stream, and cows that want to come visit.

Matt said he saw a rattler and now everyone is scared (including me). Something keeps making digging sounds by my tent. It’s probably a lizard.

We sat with our feet and trail beers in the cold stream and chilled. More and more hikers came to hang out and get water. A bunch of us are all camped out here.

Then we had dinner in a big circle. I was feeling tired/dead and was ready to lie down. I started getting ready for bed at 6:40. Lol.

My site is so flat. I love flat sites. It’s more comfortable.

I’ve been thinking about being alone. Maybe I should get a more isolated site tomorrow night and hang out by myself.

Tomorrow I will hike into Warner Springs with the boys and then split up. They want to do 15 and I’m not sure I should go that far. Let’s see how I feel.

Hooty is out! 🦉🦉🦉

There are also cows and frogs making a lot of noise around here.

🌟How Was Today? Did I enjoy it?

The great hike/trail/wildflowers and trail magic made today great. I am very motivated by town food. It was fun to hike fast and then have a party waiting.

Plants everywhere<br />

⛺How Was My Gear?

I was really thankful for my sun gloves today. It was pretty hot and sunny out there!

double cheeseburger at trail magic!

💪How did my Body Feel?

My right neck/shoulder was a little upset in the normal spot. Maybe because my bag pulls on it a bit? Blisters are ok. Getting some rubbing on the right pinky (the one with the blister).

🍴How was my food situation?

So much for today! Because of the trail magic. I will be good until Warner Springs.

Double fisting beer and gatorade

🤔What did I learn and how will I action it?

I’m ready for some alone time. I spend a lot of time alone and I miss it. Somehow I feel really busy and like I don’t have enough downtime.
