What Did I Learn?

👉My feet didn’t hurt at all today. Probably because I wasn’t hiking.

👉Be careful when cutting insoles. You don’t want to grab the wrong foot.

PCT Trail Journal: Days 33 & 34 Accidental Double Zero in Serenity Oasis & 49ers Saloon

We didn’t mean to stay as long as we did. It just sort of happened. Days 33 and 34 on the PCT turned into an accidental double zero at Serenity Oasis and the 49ers Saloon.

Day 33: Serenity Oasis & 3 Pitchers of Margaritas

What a fun town day! Somehow, despite all the margaritas the night before, I woke up feeling great and started doing chores. The hiker box at Serenity is really good. I found a lot of the items I need to resupply:

– Leucotape (finally!)
– Toilet paper
– Ziplocs
– Trash bag
– Leggings in case I don’t find hiking pants.
– Sweet town clothes to wear around for the day

Around 8:30, Majka, Dan, and I went to town to have breakfast. Yum! I love getting orange juice now.

We mosied over to 2 foot adventures and I picked up several things I needed. Like new insoles. Hopefully, that helps my feet feel better. I am also a fanny pack-carrying hobo now. It’s yellow and brown and I got the matching wallet.

My new fanny pack is pretty cool. It keeps all my important stuff close by and it looks great. It’s funny because I used to shit talk fannies all the time. Now I have one!

On the way back there was a fruit stand and we bought papaya and mangoes. Back at Serenity, we enjoyed this with our fellow hiker friends. It’s the small things like this that make the trail so special.

We chilled in the shade and Majka dyed her hair. Some other hikers came back from town and said there was a Mother’s day buffet at the Mexican place. Of course we wanted food and more margaritas. It was delicious. The chili Verde pork and the guava margaritas were the stars.

The laughter, food and fun continued back at Serenity under the shade of the porch. Then we got the urge to have more margaritas and we back to the Mexican place. I can’t believe we did that. So fun! The workers were like why are you guys back here? Lol.

Then we stopped and got more beers and candy from the liquor store. We quietly drank and ate on the porch more. Great day!

Day 34: Meant to get back on trail, ubered to Acton instead

The plan was to hike the 10 miles between Vasquez Rocks and the Acton KOA. That did not happen.

I woke up at the normal time at Serenity Oasis and chilled. Dan was gone fishing. He found some local fishing Facebook and a dude agreed to take him fishing. That meant Majka and I were chilling for the day.

Majka started packing and I chilled under the porch. Some folks were talking about going to the pizza place. We were going to join but then Farmer John wanted to grill. He made hamburgers and hot dogs. Mountain Man did all the grilling. It was good!

I needed to exchange my insoles and decided to head to 2 Foot.
Bones helped me with my insoles big time. He even cut them for me! The first time he cut the wrong foot and it felt really weird on my foot. Like a rock was in there. It makes sense because it was the insole for the left foot but it was in the right shoe.

Dan and Majka were supposed to meet me at 2 Foot when Dan got back. They were late so I ended up chilling there for hours. So fun! There was oranges, snacks and cold water.

When they arrived we decided to take an Uber to Acton to pick up our packages. The navigation took the Uber driver on a dirt road. It was too steep and rocky. She couldn’t make it. Lol.

We arrived at the post office at 4:30. I quickly pulled some things out and then sent a small box ahead to Wrightwood. There were way too many bars.

The 49ers Saloon is super hiker-friendly and lets hikers stay in the backyard. We set up our tents and then got dinner. They were slammed and only had one person. We waited a long time but it was super good. I had amazing meatloaf. Then we shared bread pudding. So good!

I laid down. There were a lot of other hikers/tents around but they weren’t too loud. The trains on the other hand were super loud. They were honking and zooming by all night. It was not a good night’s rest.

🌟How Was Today? Did I enjoy it?

Yes! Super chill day spent eating and drinking. It was great to take a break from the trail and just hang out. The next day turned out to be another rest day. Dan went fishing and didn’t get back until 3 and then we decided to just go to Acton to get our packages.
